On the prairies of Saskatchewan and Alberta, the crops for 2024 are in.
There was a nervous moment when a rail strike was threatening to be extensive, but a timely solution was set up by the federal government. Work on the farms surged ahead in September and in early October the grain trucks were still hauling the crops for 2024 to the terminals for shipping.
In our little garden in Cochrane there was an unexpected event. On October 1, when looking out the window that faces our garden, we saw a new rose blooming on our single rose bush. We didn’t have an early frost in September this year. The first light frost occurred in late September, but our flowers weren’t affected. The hardy Phlox continued to bloom as well, so this year’s visual treat was special. The old folks were grateful.
For the farmers who had a drought this past summer our hot weather in September probably wasn’t welcome, but there are many of us with old bones who are happy to have an extended season of warmth before the frost and snow arrive.
😊 Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Jack for this and the video.
